This
week, May 5-9th, is Staff Appreciation week at Shuksan Middle
School. The PTSA at Shuksan Middle School have done a great job at setting up
an online sign-up sheet for parents of kids that attend the school to sign-up
for specific days to bring all different kinds of treats. Today was the first
day of this celebration and parents signed up to bring in different types of
treats like cookies, brownies, popcorn, and anything else that they think the
staff would enjoy. Through the next couple of days there will be an espresso
cart and breakfast provided to the staff. On the last day the students will
make paw prints for the staff thanking them for all they do and the staff will
get an opportunity to draw for gift cards.
This
was a great opportunity put on by the Shuksan Middle School PTSA but this
wouldn’t be possible without the effort that is produced by the staff at
Shuksan. Just this year, one of Shuksan’s ELL (English Language Leaner) specialist,
Katie Brown, was awarded Washington’s 2014 Teacher of the Year. This was a
great opportunity to have the teachers of the Bellingham Public School District
get recognized for doing what they know best. Brown has only been working as an
ELL specialist for the past two years and has been able to support those
students, families, and staff with learning English. She was able to take her
skills and knowledge and combine them with compassion for who she was working
with.
Shuksan
Middle School has taken pride in their teachers over the years. From Brown’s
award this year to the Shuksan Middle School Eighth Grade Teaching Team receiving
the teaching team award of the year in 2012 by the Bellingham Public School District,
these teachers are on a role. Nothing seems to be slowing this staff down from
achieving greatness. So make sure all you Shuksan Middle School parents have your
kids find something nice to show their appreciation for this outstanding staff.
